Paternity FAQs

I THINK I AM THE FATHER OF A CHILD. HOW CAN I FIND OUT?

You can to ask the court to order what is called a Paternity test to determine who the legal father of a child. Once this is established if you are the father we can arrange for child custody and child support.

MY CHILD’S FATHER WON’T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CHILD. WHAT CAN I DO?

Typically you will be forced to get the Courts involved and order him to take a paternity test.

I AM NOT SURE WHO THE FATHER OF MY CHILD IS.

Your lucky…..in Florida there is a presumption (belief) that your husband is the father any child born during the marriage. However, this does not put all the responsibility on the husband, the true father of the child may present evidence at a trial or hearing to dispute this presumption if they file the appropriate paperwork on time.

HOW IS PATERNITY TESTING DONE?

A laboratory trained and qualified to do paternity testing will take DNA samples from the alleged father, the mother and the child. The lab will then compare the DNA samples and come up with a likelihood of a match.
